Moda Vera rebrand as 4 Seasons

I noticed that Spotlight had a lot of new yarns in with the name “4 Seasons”. I’d never heard of it before but as I poked around the aisles I got the sense that it’s a rebranding of Spotlight staple “Moda Vera”. I haven’t had this confirmed but there are similarities in yarn line names and colours, and the 4 Seasons labels say “Made for Spotlight Pty. Ltd”.

A quick photo I took in store to show the two Marvel lines by 4 Seasons and Moda Vera which convinced me that it’s a rebranding.

In the pure wool 8ply 50g range that I tend to use for amigurumi and granny squares there were some of the same colours as before along with new brighter colours (which will come in very handy as soon as I reduce my Moda Vera stash first!). I bought a couple of balls for a project and I’ll stock up on the other new colours when there’s a sale.

They look very similar but check out some of these happy 4 Seasons colours!

  1. I also noticed the same thing today! I ended up buying a few balls of the Pure Wool 8 ply in both Moda Vera and 4 Seasons and the information on the labels are the same, even the colour numbers. The only difference is a change in needle size from 4.5mm to 4mm.

    1. Right you are, Ash!

I hadn’t noticed the change in needle size information. I’ve mainly used the Moda Vera yarn to crochet amigurumi dolls with a 3mm hook so I’ve ignored the knitting needle details. I’ll keep an eye on my next crochet project to see whether I need to reduce my crochet hook size and if I need to be careful using both the Moda Vera and 4 Seasons yarns in a single project such as a blanket or scarf.

  2. Thank you so much for this post !
I’ve received a lot of interesting offers on the 4 seasons merino yarn. I was looking for information about this yarn but it looked like nobody had ever heard of it and it was not listed in Ravelry’s database.

Now I know I’ll look for the Moda Vera equivalent. Thank you, thank you, thank you !

    1. Hi Barbara,

I’ve had a look at the labels on the 4ply merino yarns I’ve got. The differences appear to be:

      Moda Vera
      Needle size: 3-4mm
      Tension: 22 stitches x 30 rows (10cm x 10cm sq)

      4 Seasons
      Needle size: 3.75mm
      Tension: 24 stitches x 32 rows (10cm x 10cm sq)

I don’t know how accurate their testing is to determine what to put on labels but at the end of the day it’s down to an individuals own style. Considering both balls of yarn are 50g with approximately 135m, I think they’ve just tried to be more accurate with their new labels on the 4 Seasons yarn.

I’ve been knitting with both Moda Vera and now 4 Seasons 4ply merino yarns and I haven’t noticed any significant difference so I think finding patterns for Moda Vera would work fine for the 4 Seasons yarns.

  3. I was at spotlight today looking at the yarns and I noticed this about the marvel acrylic that I use. I don’t mind the change but I hope they haven’t got rid of colours yet because I’m part way through a blanket and I know I’m going to need some more colours but I was leaving it until later to buy the second/third balls. I may need to hurry up and get the old moda vera as soon as possible.

    1. Hi Caitlin,

I’ve been to two Spotlights around Sydney recently and they’ve had sales on the Moda Vera versions of their yarns so it might be a good idea to keep an eye on the sales.

I haven’t looked at the Marvel yarns specifically, but with the wool and merino yarns they appear to have kept a large portion of the colours, but they’ve removed some and added a handful which I think is what they do now and then anyway to bring in seasonal colours.
