Over the holidays I challenged myself to try a different way of making socks. I’ve knit all my socks cuff-down so it was time to try toe-up.
I had a Zauberball that I’d been hoarding and I decided that the fun colours would keep me interested as I worked a plain sock. I had also picked up a set of Knit Pro Karbonz to test out in 2.25mm (US 1) so I threw them in the challenge mix. Continue reading
I took some inspiration from this image of the Big Granny Basket to construct my own version.
I’d never made a granny square before so I found a basic granny square tutorial and got to work on my first one…
I tried out another potholder from the crochet book “Patalappuja á la Carte” (note: the book is written in Finnish) by Jaana Vehkasalo, this one called Metsäretkellä (which they’ve translated as “Pine Forest” but technically means something along the lines of being on an outing in the forest). Inspired by the images at Savvy Housekeeping, I gave Sarah London’s Wool eater instructions a go to make colourful potholders as a gift for my mum.
The instructions were good and, although at first the clunies took some getting used to, after a while it was easy crocheting going around and around. Definitely fun, and definitely a wool eater!
I’m not sure I was poking my crochet hook in to the right part of the spaces because the gaps in my potholders turned out larger, more U-shaped, than the smaller O-shaped in the photographs I’ve seen, but I decided to just keep going in the same way and I’ll experiment with it some more another time.
