Handcrafts and travels in Rovaniemi, Finland

Rovaniemi, on the Arctic circle, is a beautiful part of the world, and sadly so very far from Australia! A few highlights from my recent visit were:

Yarn shops

Yarns at Taito Lappi

I get a nice warm fuzzy feeling remembering the Taito Lappi store because it was my favourite shop in Rovaniemi. There was a fun collection of yarns, handmade items, and I also spotted items for spinning and weaving. I spoke at length with a woman running the store and she invited me to take a look at the back room where people were weaving. Continue reading

Welcome to Leikitty!

After just under a year of posting about my crafting adventures at make.amniisia.com, I’ve decided to set up a new site with a more meaningful name to continue sharing my experiences.

Welcome!

I will be transferring all my posts from make.amniisia.com and setting up a new site structure so that experiments, patterns, reviews and other posts are easier to find. It will take a few days to get setup but more coming soon!

So what does “Leikitty” mean? It’s a Finnish word meaning “played with” and that’s just what these posts are about. These are crafts and stories in which I’ve played with materials or techniques. Keeping track of what I’ve done and what has worked means that future projects will be just that little bit better. Sharing these experiences will hopefully also give you some ideas for your own projects.

It’s time to start a new blog

Hi there!

I don’t expect anyone will stumble on this blog just yet but I thought I’d better post in case someone does. The walls in here are obviously a little bare at the moment but the purpose of this blog will become clear soon and I’ll aim to post at least a couple of short pieces a week over the next little while.

Write to you soon.
