Simple Skyp Socks and sock heels

Simple Skyp Socks

These are the first of what will be a few sock experiments that I need to complete over the next few months. I’m going to pick patterns and try to follow them as closely as possible to become familiar with different sock knitting techniques.

The Simple Skyp Socks are a free pattern by Adrienne Ku that I chose because of the pretty texture. I found it to be a relatively simple knit after I worked out the flow of the pattern (it’s setup to be printed as a booklet but I read from it as a PDF).  Continue reading

Two yarns striped socks

It was time to use up a stashed yarn that was bought without a clear purpose.

These socks were knit from the top down with the intention of using just the Regia Design Line “Garden Effects” yarn, but the more ribbing I knit the more I knew that this yarn needed help from a friend to make it interesting. I added in a ball of grey Regia that appears almost purple-blue next to the the pinks and reds from the Garden Effects yarn. Stripes to the rescue!

Colour play for knitted socks

I’ve become attached to my sock knitting needles after making my first three pairs of socks and an armful of mittens. My fourth and fifth socks have involved colour play rather than relying on self-striping yarns.

Novita Nostalgia socks

Digging in to my yarn stash from Finland, this pair were made with Novita Nostalgia and Novita 7 Veljestä yarn. They have a longer cuff which is folded down in this photo:
