It’s time to start preparing some upcoming birthday gifts for children whose birthdays all cluster together. The first gift was inspired by this flickr photo of crochet pencil cases.
My pencil case was intended to look like a monkey but the more I stare at it, the more it looks like a koala! Or a creature with a smiley badge attached to its nose. Continue reading →
I wanted to use up some scraps of wool so I didn’t put much thought in to the colour choice. While my finished pincushion doesn’t resemble a standard flower, I think it’s turned out quite pretty. Continue reading →
I’ve now made these socks a few times so I’ve adjusted the original pattern to try and make it easier to follow. The old pattern is available if you have been using it, but I’d recommend using the one below if you’re starting out. I made up my own pattern for some crochet socks however they roughly borrowed from the Stitch to Stitch pattern I wrote about recently.
I varied the pattern by crocheting two yarns at once (a black and a dark blue) of Lincraft Cosy Wool (100% wool, 100g/174m) with a 6mm hook to make a thicker sock, and I double crocheted (rather than half-double crocheted) the foot to work up the socks quicker.
I have also made this pattern by crocheting two yarns at once of Moda Vera Pure Wool 8 ply (100% wool, 50g/80m) with a 7mm hook to make it a bit more roomy.
I’m still learning to write patterns but tried to jot down the pattern using US crochet terms as I went. I will give this a go another time and try to photograph the steps. I’ve included some photographs in the pattern at key steps.
Here’s the pattern for my foot based on these approximate shoe sizes:
Women’s Australian/US: 9
Women’s European: 40
Women’s UK: 7 Continue reading →
I wanted to make a mobile phone pouch to protect my phone while it bounces around in my bag. As usual, I searched online for patterns however many of then used buttons to close the pouch. I’m wary of buttons because something in my bag bumping the hard button could push it against the phone and crack the screen. So I made up my own mobile phone cover that didn’t need a button. My fourth crochet hat attempt was based on the Hadley Lace Hat from Oh Frog It! I bumped in to some sizing issues along the way so it turned out differently to the pattern. Continue reading →
